We bought our first family tent at our community garage sale and decided to give this camping thing a try. My brother Chris is a classic doomsday prepper, so he naturally has tons of camping gear, and my sis Nikki and her fam go camping all the time, so we gathered up the troops and headed out. We picked a fairly close location in Decatur in case it turned into a disaster and we needed to head home. Ry had also just been camping there with the scouts and found a spot by the lake with a little playground that the kids would like, so the location was just right for us. Here is the scoop:
The Good
| The cousins had a GREAT time playing together. Pay no attention to Carver's tantrum in this picture, he had fun I promise! |
| Uncle Ry teaching the littles how to skip rocks |
| Elsie one on one with nature |
| Making leaf angels |
| Silly Cousies |
| Chris & Geneva made the best camping breakfast burritos ever! |
The Bad
| All of these pics were taken with my iphone in the dark of night. One of my kids decided to BARF in our tent around 2 AM…gotta love that smell! |
| Everyone else was up with the sun at 6AM! AAGGHH! |
| …except for this guy of course. He sleeps through EVERYTHING! AAAGGHHH! |
The Ugly
As we were still unpacking poor Annalee hopped on her bike, starting cruising down this little hill we were setting up at, hit a stick, and fell. The next thing we know there was blood and guts gushing from her leg! The guys rushed her to the hospital where she got some serious stitches! She was done camping for the weekend, so we tried not to have too much fun without her.
| Everyone was SO sad that Annalee got hurt right at the beginning of our trip! |
So, there was hiking, smores, singing, storytelling, bike riding, playing, skipping rocks, barf, little sleep, and stitches. It was definitely a camping trip to remember! Now that we got the first one out of the way, I feel an encore coming on. At least it was an inexpensive memory, right?
