LeGoLaNd - Denmark Trip

Our trip to Denmark was FUN and FREEZING!  An important lesson was learned with that freezingness - don't go North when it's still cold because chances are it will be even colder.  And it was.  Of course, we didn't think about this a few months ago when we booked our trip for the end of March/beginning of April, we figured we were well within "springtime range"...but it's ok.  Another lesson learned on this trip - when you are in a packing frenzy and you let your husby help you and you think you finally have everything all packed, don't forget to check upstairs beside your bed for your warm winter boots.  Otherwise you will have to wear your unwarm Reeboks for the entire trip, and even with 4 pairs of socks on, your feet will STILL be wet and freezing.  End note to self.
We decided to hit up Legoland before exploring Copenhagen.  You know, put the kids into stimulation overload before making them sit in a stroller and wander around Copenhagen admiring architecture and culture…that sort of thing.  Our plan worked.  They each drifted happily into their own lego-induced-comas combined with a little post-Easter sugar crash.  But details on all that will come later.
First - the wonder that is Legoland.  Cheaper than Euro Disney and a little more exciting (so I've heard), the original Legoland in Billund, Denmark had plenty to keep us busy for two days.  After some searching and contemplating, we decided to stay in a little cabin at the Randboldal campground just a few miles from Billund.  It had enough beds to accomodate all of us, and though we had to bring our own linens (sheets, bedding, and towels), it came complete with a kitchen with all the necessaries and of course a private bathroom  - which, hostel or no, is a MUST for me with 4 little people.  So it wasn't glamorous, but it was perfect for our family.  And a great deal to boot.  Here are some pics of our cozy home for 2 nights and 2 days…
We were able to bring food into the park, no problem.  In fact, the only restrictions listed were "no grills" like some weirdo would drag their grill in for the day?  Anyway, I was Miss Frugal (as usual) and packed groceries with us for most of this trip.  It paid off, because things are pretty pricey in Denmark.
But back to our 2 days at Legoland - the most exciting and impressive thing about this theme park are the lego displays EVERYWHERE.  Seriously, everything is pieced together with legos except the rides themselves and the shops.  We are talking huge Statue of Liberty, entire European cities, gigantic helicopters, ALL made of legos.  It is SO neat.  So if you are looking at these pictures and wondering if they are just low-rez-pixely or made of legos, guess what?  They are made of legos.  Here's the scoop:
Entering…freezing already!
The Netherlands!

Neuschwanstein Castle - amazing.
Carv-man
For real - Mt. Rushmore…I told you.  All legos.
Another huge plus that made this trip super memorable - almost all of the rides that were open (some were closed due to the freezing conditions) we were ALL able to ride on.  That was seriously so fun to go on rides together with the entire fam…no one had to sit out for shortness.
Here's the slideshow, it has it all...

Next up, Copenhagen.  I will try to post amidst my never ending laundry situation that I'm dealing with right now.  Oh the joys of traveling as a family of 6!
