My little tiny 7 lbs. 14 oz. first born baby is 9 years old now. How did that happen? Time is such a funny thing. I was reading this story of a holocaust survivor (Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning) and he describes how time passes in a death camp: the days are long and seem to last forever, but somehow the weeks and months pass by really quickly. So for a second, ignore the fact that it sounds like I am comparing motherhood to a concentration camp, and let me focus on the time thing really quick. When raising children, sometimes the days are impossibly long...then somehow years go by in a blink. I'm really not sure how that happens.
Anyway, she's 9. Already. And halfway to college. So, per the norm, we let her choose some fun family activity in lieu of a friend party. This year, the venue of choice was Duinrell amusement park in Wassenaar. We used our Rotterdam passes and got in free, naturally. We also brought along Kaydree's new friend Holly (who, incidentally, is actually named Holland). It was a fun filled day.

| Wow - look at that baby bump! I could barely get in and out of that thing. |

| It was pretty fun for Kaydree and Holly, who were the only ones tall enough to ride many of the coolest rides. |
Back at home, we had a little family celebration. Kaydree wanted key lime cupcakes with lime cream cheese frosting and Haribo frogs on top. She really digs green right now. I mentioned in a previous post having to make some compromises when finding our new house. One of the major compromises was this: this apartment/townhouse/rowhouse dwelling that we live in has NO OVEN. There's this microwave/oven combo thing that could maybe cook meat, but you cannot bake anything in there. Eventually, I would by a baker's rack and put a counter top oven on top to try to address the obvious baking needs of a family of 6 (almost 7). Till then, I tried to wing it...and well, the cupcakes were weird.
Happy Birthday K! I hope your 9th year is the best one yet.
