We took our longest most amazing road trip yet - 16 days, 7 countries (not including the additional 3 that we drove through), and many hotels and vacation rentals. We had a great time and learned so much as we headed further into Eastern Europe than we have ever been before. It all started in Hallstatt, Austria - a beautiful lakeside village surrounded by mountains and trees.
We arrived around lunchtime, so we stopped for a quick bite to eat. The weather was so beautiful, we just ordered some food from a snack stand and ate at picnic tables outside.
We spent the rest of our time strolling and taking in the scenery.
The way this tree grew right along the front of this house was so neat.
Meeting some friendly swans...
This is such a picturesque place...
I was underwhelmed by the limited number of shops in the area. I guess part of the draw here is that this is an untouristy area, but still - I would have liked to window shop a bit more. There wasn't a whole lot there, apart from the natural beauty.
We climbed up near the local church to see this special chapel where they have several traditional painted skulls. To our disappointment, the chapel was unexpectedly closed.
There were great views looking down on the village though...
A great start to a memorable trip!
